Here is a a list of the 5 most important dog
training tips to help get you started on your dog training
right away:
The Big
5 Dog Training Tips
1. Expect your dog to act like a
dog. Dogs chew, bark, and go to the bathroom. To
a dog, these aren't behavior "problems", it's just plain dog
"behavior". Find out "why" your dog is doing what it's doing
and work with your dog's natural behavior to find a
solution.
2. No free lunch.
Instead of being scowling or violent with your dog, start
training your dog with rewards. Dogs are descended from wolves.
Wolves had to work very hard for their food, finding, stalking,
and chasing down prey. Their meal was their reward. It's in
dogs genes to want rewards. Kill two birds with one stone here,
and make your dog do something to earn it's food before letting
him/her eat.
3. Supply dog with acceptable
outlets of doggy behaviors. Dogs are born with
predatory energy. Dogs are naturally predatory. Even lap dogs
have instincts to trap and pounce. Play catch with your dog,
let them run around. Let them chase lizards or
insects.
4. Handle puppies
endlessly. As dogs grow older they'll be set for
life to not bite people and not be stressed when handled in
later life.
5. Training. It is
important that your dog gets good training. Dog training
courses can be expensive, and you don't get the bonding with
your pet that you would get by training yourself. A better
approach is often to train your own pet yourself. Don't be
afraid! Almost all of the guides you find on the internet are
made by the same professionals that would be teaching your dog
at a training course. If you ever run into something that you
are unsure of, look online for an answer, or ask your local
vet.
Training your dog on your own creates a
very special bond between you and your pet that can not get
created any other way.
